Fatty amides

This is a nonionic surfactant whose main function is to improve foam stability by changing the structure from one coarse bubble to very fine ones. Dhese products simultaneously increase viscosity by promoting even more of the larger micelle arrangements. The overall effect of having this non – ionic present is to boost foam, and provide a thick & creamy texture.

It may well be that foam is purely a psychological factor when it comes to, say, hand wash detergents but for shampoos foam also offers technical benefits. It helps to build the shampoo around the mass of hair, separating the strands. Furthermore flexibility of the foam enables it to constantly reform itself & assist retention of the available surfactant. In shampoo it is usual to add the coconut diethanolamide at the 1 to 2% level. Putting together the few ingredients consider so far would give us a basic shampoo formulation.
