Fatty alcohol ethoxylate

A Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate (FAE) is a nonionic surfactant produced by the ethoxylation of a fatty alcohol. This process involves reacting a fatty alcohol with ethylene oxide (EO) to create a molecule with both hydrophobic (the fatty alcohol chain) and hydrophilic (the polyether chain from ethylene oxide) parts. This dual nature allows FAEs to reduce surface tension between liquids, or between a liquid and a solid, making them effective as detergents, emulsifiers, and wetting agents. They are used in personal and home care, textile, and paints and coatings industries.
